September Favorites

This month has completely flown by and I don't even know where the time has gone! From the starting school at the beginning of the month, going through a hurricane evacuation and getting back into the swing of things, it's been a lot. I definitely have gotten acclimated with everything with school wise and have been figuring out what works best for me. This September has definitely been a lot of change and adjusting, but none the less I was able to find what products work best from day today!

September Influencer Q&A

If you have been reading my blog for a while, you know that I used to do monthly interviews with bloggers. It was a super neat way to get my reader exposed to different people and connect with different bloggers in the field! I'm starting it back up today and bringing you my September Influencer Q&A! I interviewed one of my friends Emily from the blog Love Emmarie! We met over the summer when she was interning in Los Angeles and have been great buddies since!

Let's get started!

Please introduce yourself!

Hi y’all! I’m Emily, the blogger gal behind Love Emmarie! I’m a Texan born and raised and a senior studying fashion merchandising at Oklahoma State.

How was Love Emmarie created?

I started Love Emmarie wayyyy back in high school under a different name, and finally rebranded right before college. I started the blog to share my favorite outfits, but since then it has evolved into beauty, fitness, travel and so much more!

How has doing Love Emmarie throughout college taught you and what are your favorite parts?

I think the biggest thing blogging has helped teach me in college is time management. That is one of my main weaknesses is procrastinating and doing things last minute (like getting this interview back to Sophia...sorry babe!). I know that if I want to stay on top of my school work, blog, social media accounts AND my social life, I’ve got to hustle and get stuff done!

What would be your ultimate dream for your blog to grow to?

My ultimate dream for Love Emmarie would be to branch off the blog and open the Love Emmarie Shop. As a fashion merchandising major, my dream career is to open up my own boutique someday, so I would absolutely LOVE to tie my two passion projects together!

What is something you think your readers wouldn't know about you?

Off the top of my head, I think a lot of my readers don’t realize how tall I am! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve met someone from social media in person and they tell me that they didn’t realize how tall I was. So just to clue y’all in, barefoot, I am six feet tall and with shoes well it just depends on the heel. ;)

What has been your all-time favorite collaboration?

I think my favorite collaboration I’ve done was the Madewell campaign I participated in last year with HerCampus. Madewell is like my all time favorite store, so getting to work with them was like a dream come true! I hope to work with them again in the future!!

What would you say is essential to creating new content and sharing it with your readers?

Your own personal touch! I hate when all the bloggers or YouTubers I follow feature the same pieces or all do the same kind of posts. It just gets boring after a while. And also consistency! Find an editorial schedule that works for you and stick to it! If you post super randomly, your readers get confused. A schedule keeps them coming back!

If you could switch Instagrams with for a day, who would it be?

Hands down Jacey Duprie from Damsel in Dior. I’m OBSESSED with her. Like if I ever met her I’d be so calm and collected, and then flip out once she walked away. We’d be best friends I just know it.

I’ve done one of these posts in the past and y’all really enjoyed it! It’s essentially a roundup of some things I’ve been loving and talking about it a little bit more in-depth than I usually would. It was a super fun idea created by one of my all-time favorite bloggers, Mechanize Horan, and is something that I love reading on her blog!

With college being in full swing right now, I thought it would be fun to do this more often and talk about things that have really been big in my life right now!!

Listening… When studying for exams and just doing homework, I am a big fan of listening to music. I usually can't-do classical music or anything without words, but I have been playing Arctic Monkeys and The Weekend on repeat!

Loving… Dry Bar Whipped Dry Shampoo is amazing!! I am such a big fan of dry shampoo since it’s effortless and easy to use, but sometimes I don’t like the spray on and the color to my hair. I picked up this whipped version (essentially a mousse) and it works so much better!

Reading… Anything Refinery 29 for Fashion Weeks! (Plus who can’t stop reading about the Versace Milan show!)

Wanting… I’ve been eyeing these Charleston sweatshirts sold at Skinny Dip. They are so darling and simple and perfect with jeans and a tee shirt for fall!

Watching… Anything on Bravo TV. Fun fact about me is that I watch all of the Bravo shows constantly, and are always my go-to’s!

Wearing… my linen J.Crew tank tops constantly. Plus they are all on sale!!

Simply Saturday V. 31

Happy Satur-YAY!!

I couldn't be more happy that the weekend is finally here! I've had a super draining week filled with three tests and a ton of projects to work on. But none the less, I'm remaining pretty sane and just taking it day by day. Most of the reason why this week was so hectic was due to Hurricane Irma from two weeks ago. Charleston County and College of Charleston ended up evacuating from Irma and leaving us to be incredibly backed up once we got back to school last Thursday. It's been a week since being back at school since the disaster, but at least everything s going well! Right now we are just crossing our fingers that Hurricane Maria won't come near us and have to miss more school again and stop hurting everything! I'll give y'all updates if anything else happens!

New Evelyn Henson Prints | I am a big fan of Evelyn Henson and her designs! She has the most fun and beautiful prints that I've seen and always brings joy! She has a series on her shop where she does maps of different cities and adds so much color and happiness to them! She recently just added 10 new cities and I've already purchased some!!

Trunk Club by Nordstroms | This is something that I just got introduced to and I'm in love! Nordstroms has this service where you can get paired up with a stylist and they help pick out clothes for your style. They then can ship them to you in the right sizes and you can keep them! All you pay is a $25 styling fee and then the rest you just pay for the clothes individually. This is such a fun way to find some great pieces for fall!

College So Far

Where do I even begin! I’ve already been in college for almost month now (what??!!) and it definitely hasn’t hit me still that I’m here. I’ve been talking to a lot of my friends from home about how they were feeling about it too, and we all still can’t believe that we made it. Back in high school, college was all you hyped up about since it was what we were working towards. And now that I’m finally here, I can’t process that I’m doing it! So far within the past month, it’s been really great and I can’t complain. I defiantly have been working to find a balance for everything (thus why I dropped the ball earlier on blogging) but everything is starting to

The city:
Charleston is utterly amazing. There is so much to do, see, and explore constantly. We have been trying to explore lots of restaurants right now along with the neighborhoods. With the hurricane and having to evacuate, I was able to see some more of South Carolina! I went to my roommates home of Clemson which was super cool to see!

Classes & Workload:
School work is pretty good and honestly is something I’m used to now. College is most definitely more intense than high school, but something you need to find your groove in. I have been trying to get into a system of after all of my morning classes I go to the library within the time in-between others. This helps a lot because I’m already in the working mood and really gets me to do a lot of stuff.

This is still something I’m adjusting to, but also pretty normal. It’s only the first month of school, and I’m just really trying out different groups and people I meet. This is really good within the different classes I’m taking and getting a chance to meet people. In my Women's and Gender Studies class, it’s all girls and we actually bond really well together and try to meet outside of the classroom.

Missing Home:
Homesickness is definitely real, but I try my hardest to not let it consume me. It’s very easy for me to start thinking about home and everything California has and it can end up in a spiral from there. But I will say that I’m pretty lucky to be so busy and involved with my studies that I usually don’t get homesick. I’m planning on doing a whole post about it soon on the blog, so be on the lookout!

Sun Protection

I’m super big on skincare and taking good care of my skin. I shared my skincare routine during the summer but actually was missing one major thing…. Sun protection!! This something new I added to my everyday routine as of a couple of weeks ago and I’m already seeing a difference!

One of my key things when it comes to protecting your skin from UV light is to really be constant. In the beginning of getting the hang of applying the sunscreen, I would always forget. I would put in next to my daily moisturizer for the day, but it never would get touched. One day I went to the beach and I ended up grabbing my Glossier one (super portable and easy to travel with) and loved the smell of it and how easy it was to apply. Since then I have been collecting different products and getting used to it.

Since I’ve been in college, I have been only using my Glossier sunscreen. It's super easy and only needs a little to go a long way for each day. During the summer I was really into any of Clinique’s products and Jack Black’s items. I listed some of my favorites below, but please let me know what some of your favorites are too!

Freshman Year Dorm Room Tour

I am so excited to be sharing my first dorm and room tour to y'all! I still can't believe that I'm in college finally and that I'm even able to be writing the post. But nonetheless, I'm here! As for my room, my roommate Beth and I really wanted to coordinate with each other on having the same stuff. We both went back and forth on what "theme" we wanted our room to have and finally decided on this simplistic feel. Since we are living in the south, we decided to go all out with monograms and adding in a headboard.

I'm absolutely in love with our room and it really goes well with our personalities. I'm very much leaning towards more simple things and this room really portrays it. We thought that the tassel garlands really added a girly effect to the room and thought that they complemented the monograms perfectly. I actually DIY'd them and were super duper easy to make! If y'all would be interested in seeing that, please let me know!

Internship Tips

Internships are something that I have been doing for a couple of years now and is something that I have been loving. I've had an internship at least every school year since my sophomore year in high school. I've done everything to managing websites, editorials, social media, and even graphic design. Having an internship really can get you exposed to so much out there and even what you might want to do in the future. I just wrapped up my final summer internship about two weeks ago, and thought I would share some of my key tips on making it an amazing time!

1. Always be early and prompt on deadlines.
This was one of my biggest key to getting my boss or person in charge to give me feedback. I'm always looking at what to improve and I get major anxiety when I'm not able to give it my best shot. For a lot of my writing internships, we had set deadlines by the end of the day for what we should have produced. I usually liked to set a time of day (a couple hours before I would leave) to have all of my assignments done. I would then like to send them to the person in charge of me and ask and make sure it's what they are asking for and getting it done correctly. Making sure you are getting it done the right way, and your boss can see that you are putting in the effort can really go a long way.

2. Get to know your coworkers
Meeting and connecting with people is something that is really crucial and beneficial in the long run. You're here at your internship to get to know this field and to make lifelong connections with the people at the company.

3. Dress for Success
Right before I'm about to start my new internship, I always try and get some key pieces that go well with how they dress at the office. I've worked in somewhere you need to be in business casual constantly and others where you can wear jeans and a shirt and still be fine. Make sure that you are confident in what you are wearing and knowing that it's something appropriate for the workspace.

4. Ask for more (if possible)
In the past, after I would be done getting feedback and done with my corrections with assignments I would always ask if there was anything else I could do. Whether it's one more editorial post of helping them work on something for them, it really got my hands on with what the field was. Even if you just help out a little, who knows how much that can go in the long run with an event or even project! It also can lead to them giving you bigger tasks and more responsibilities even!

Simply Saturday V.30

Simply Saturday's are back! The last time I posted one of these was all the way back from before summer started... Whoops. I feel like with roundup posts and more weekly ones at that, they can be much harder to write than anything else. For me to sum up my week, I sometimes feel that I do nothing interesting to share with y'all and never end up doing them. But I think with college and me practically exploring a new place each day, this will be much different!

As for adjusting to college life, it definitely has been interesting. I absolutely love Charleston and this whole area! Southern hospitality and sweetness is definitely a thing and is something that I'm most definitely trying to adjust from what I'm used to. My classes are really fun and interesting for the most part. Currently, I have a Freshman Year Experience that the Psychology of Women's and Gender Studies class where I take both a Psychology class and Women's and Gender Studies class. The teachers for both are best friends and are so fun to learn from! The class is all girls, and that actually made us bond so much more together! We now have so many group chats where we have gotten to know each other and made more friends!

J.Crew Factory New Arrivals | Y'all, if any of you are looking for some super cute fall clothes you need to go to J.Crew Factory!! They are having a mega sale right now on all new arrivals is something you must check out!!

Hurricane Harvey Help | I cannot explain how much I love seeing everyone supporting this cause. It's so sad to see what this natural disaster is doing to Texas and absolutely breaks my heart. Lots of companies are doing certain days where a portion of their earnings of the day to the people in need and I can't love that enough! I know that some of my favorite companies did that like May Designs, Kendra Scott, Soul Cycle and even Emily Ley!

Project Repat | I teamed up with Project Repat for a collaboration and the results are coming soon! I am obsessed with their work and message about recycling old shirts and making them do amazing things.
