Staying Healthy in College

One of my new year resolutions for the past two years has been to really go through my life decisions and starting things of healthier alternatives. Last year I really took that leap and found a workout that I adore (read all about it here!) and really ran with it.

When coming to college, things shifted a bit. Of course, college is a little bit more difficult to really stick to a routine and what you want from your goals. These last few months though, I have really cracked down on what I really wanted to see a change in my life and have definitely have seen a change. Most of these come from small little goals that I wanted to explain a little more!

| Finding a Workout Routine |

Like I said before, last year I really found my love for barre classes. I am a huge Bar Method fan and love my home studio, and really didn't know what I would do workout wise in Charleston. I have a lot of injuries that make it hard for me to do running and high impact things. I ended up giving Pure Barre a try when I first got here and honestly, wasn't a fan. It's a tad bit different then Bar Method in so many different ways. At the end of December, I ended up giving them a second try and now I can't stop going! I think that I forgot how much I love doing barre classes and I missed it so much that I really changed my attitude about Pure Barre. Currently, I'm on a 23-day streak of going to Pure Barre and feel amazing! Up next on my list is to try a local pilates class!

| Water Bottle always with you |

I have to admit, but I am a major soda drinker. I've always been one since I was little and is something that I haven't been able to control until now. I always have my S'well bottle filled with ice cold water, and I have forced myself to stop buying soda unless I'm eating out (which is only on the weekends). I have seen such a big difference in my urge to drink it for the past couple of months, and it's something that I really want to continue forward.

| Healthy Snacks |

Healthy snacks are something that I have really started incorporating more into my eating habits. I wish I could keep carrots and produce in our mini fridge, but it's really not an easy thing to do. Lately, I have been ordering big bags of my favorite snacks like veggie sticks and popcorn. At least every day, I grab a ziplock bag and put a little of each and take it on the go! This really helps me resist the urge to purchase snacks and such when being out and about.

| Meal Routine |

I am incredibly thankful that College of Charleston has a dining hall catered to people with a vegetarian, kosher, or vegan food restrictions. It's open to everyone and I didn't discover it until the week before finals in December. Since then, I only eat there since it's portioned out rather than the regular dining hall where it's buffet style. I only eat there for lunch and dinner and have a regular routine planned out of what I eat from there and balance it out. I think finding what works best for you with your classes and such is something that I really enjoy having control of and healthy alternatives.

2018 Resolutions

I did an Instagram poll a couple of days ago asking if y'all would still be interested in seeing my 2018 Resolutions. I got an overwhelming response from y'all and I'm so excited to share them today! It took me all of December of last year to really nail down what I wanted to achieve in 2018. Like I said in a couple of my other posts from this week that 2017 was a really big year. With that being said, I reflected on what I liked and disliked of last year and wrote out these resolutions. I'm thinking that if y'all like this post, I possibly will do updates each month or every other month! Let me know if you would be interested in this!

| Meditation |

Last summer, I started hearing more and more about Headspace and meditation from so many different people. I ended up trying headspace for a free trial and loved it for the week I consecutively did it, and purchased a year subscription! I don't do it as often as I would like because I feel like I either make excuses or can never find a space where it's quiet and don't get distracted. I really want to start getting back into it and start focusing on getting in my daily 5 or 10 minutes.

| Declutter |

I've always considered myself a pretty neat person and usually keep things to a minimal. When packing for college, I was actually pleasantly surprised with all of the stuff I had. I definitely realized that I have way too many clothes that I don't wear, but very little things that I use on a daily basis. I think when I go home for the summer, I really want to focus on going through everything and focusing on the stuff that I don't use and donating.

| Work out consistency |

This is something that I have been tackling right now and I definitely have been seeing the benefit. My favorite workouts are Barre and Cycling, classes. Here in Charleston, I have a Pure Barre membership and have been really enjoying it. But when singing back up for it after winter break, I told myself that I need to at least go 4-5 times a week to make the cost worthwhile. For some reason after I told myself that, I did a challenge for myself where I should go seven days straight. I did that three weeks ago, and now I'm currently on a 28-day streak. I know it sounds crazy, but I honestly feel AMAZING. I feel so much stronger and energized that I really can't stop. The classes are only 50 minutes so I always force myself that there is always a class I can take every day. I'm really curious how long I can go with my seven-day streaks, but my end goal for the summer with Pure Barre is to complete 100 classes before I go back home.

| Build Wardrobe Staples |

This is something that I have been trying to work on more and more each year, but always get sidetracked. But this year it's going to happen. I feel like before working at J.Crew, I didn't own any staples. But after being with the company for almost a year now (Still can't believe it's been so long), I have definitely grown my style. I really want to focus on dresses and shirt basics for before summer.  Once I get all of my items, I'll for sure be sharing it with y'all on the blog!

| Master Makeup & Hair |

Y'all, I honestly suck at both of these. I have always dreamed to be good and either one or both, but it never has gotten there. But this year I am determined to get a good flowing routine started. For makeup, I really want to take a MakeUp basics class at a store called Belle & Blush. This is right up my ally and definitely something I can continue practicing. As for hair, I really need to get good at blowdrying my hair well. This will just take time to get into a groove!

January Favorites 2018

January is always a great time of year to try new things. I keep a running list of products and companies that I want to try and aim to always purchase them at the beginning of the year. My three biggest things that I wanted to get were a good everyday jacket, nighttime skin care, and a good notebook. I tested a few products from those three categories and ended up loving what I tested! Of course, you can find these at the bottom, along with a few others that I enjoyed this month!

J.Crew Sweater Blazer | This jacket, I had a really hard time deciding if I would love it or not. I've seen it at the store when I work constantly, but never knew if it would fit my style. I purchased it right before Christmas Eve and haven't stopped wearing it since! I love how much of a professional yet clean look it gives you, while still being warm. I went for the camel color which I love!

Appointed Notebook | Oddly enough, I have been eyeing this notebook for a while. I've seen it on a couple of my favorite Instagrammers profiles and love how clean it looks. I picked one up from Mac & Murphy last week and haven't stopped using it since! I love brainstorming ideas and writing my daily to do's in it!

Care of Vitamins | One of my new year resolutions was to start taking better care of my self and getting into vitamins. I've always opted for the gummy ones at the drugstore, but never have taken any actual serious ones. I had heard of Care Of Vitamins in the past and decided to take them up on their service. Boy, do I love it! I'm currently on a 30-day streak of taking my vitamins and I'm in love. I'm going to be doing a post all about my experience and why I love them in the next few weeks, so say tuned!

Mario Badescu Cleanser | My cousin gave me this cleaner a couple of months back, and have been using it on and off since. I've heard nothing but good things about Mario Badescu products, and this definitely does justice. It's a very clean and basic cleanser but definitely has an exfoliating side to it. I only use it two to three times a week because it can start becoming too harsh on my skin.

Pixi Beauty Sleep Creme | I'm a sucked for anything skincare, and Pixi has been one of my favorites for a while. I spotted this cream at Target and thought I would give it a chance. It's for sure a good pick if you want a lightweight cream at night, but it smells amazing!! It has a super relaxing smell that honeslty is perfect when you are going to sleep.

DryBar Mini Hairbrush | Lately my hair has started to become a tad bit tamer with the lessened humidity here in Charleston. I usually always have this little bush with me just in case, but never put use to it. In the past couple of weeks, I've been using it after my workouts and it does wonders on my curls! I'm a big fan of the full sized brush for everyday use, but this is the perfect on the go brush.

Life Update

Haven't talked to y'all in a while! These past few months have been super busy, and it's been incredibly hard to juggle everything. But I've honestly missed writing so much. Simply Sopha Blog has always been a good outlet for me in the past, and I think that this time I have been so stressed out that it was hard for me to focus back on things.

Anyways, I wanted to catch y'all up to speed with whats been going on and talk a little bit about what I want to do going forward with my blog!

I was really proud of what I was able to accomplish in my first semester in college. It definitely was a big adjustment from high school workload, but defiantly has some advantages. This semester I have some really exciting classes to compliment my major, so I’m excited to be taking those! I’ll defiantly update y'all with how those are going!

One of my biggest New Year Resolutions was to take better care of my self. Last year, I finally found a workout that I genuinely enjoyed and ran with it (read more about it here!). But this year I want to incorporate fitness along with better eating habits and meditation. Right now Meditation is off to a rocky start since I’ve been forgetting. But I’m slowly adding to my daily routine and should be on a better track by the end of this month!

At the beginning of this month, I was thrilled to receive an offer to be a PR/Social Media Intern for Skinny Dip Charleston. I have always admired their brand and so happy to finally be apart of the team! Defiantly be prepared to see a ton more photos from there! (Emoji)

This past month definitely has been fun of brainstorming for this blog. I really sat down and thought about what content I want to be showing, how I market my brand, and how often I should be writing. What I came down to was that I definitely want to do three to four times a week of blog posts and be more active on social media. I defiantly have taken quite a lot of hiatuses from blogging this past year, but I’m ready to get back into the spring of things!
